Hi foodies, today I’ll be doing a food review of a fast-food restaurant near Balliwala Chowk and Anurag Chowk, Kanwali Road. They are well known for their intimate seating, serving size & tandoori items like chaaps and tikkas.
Come, let’s take a closer look!
Location
Kanwali Rd, opposite Afreen Saloon, Balliwala Chowk, Dehradun, Uttarakhand 248001
The restaurant is located right along the main Kanwali road. Since it is along the main road, there is barely enough parking space in front of the restaurant for a few two-wheelers, but not enough for four-wheelers.

Ambience
The ambiance of the restaurant was quite cozy and compact in area, and it was clear to see that they had tried to make most of the space available to them, but even then they could have definitely done a lot more to better organize the place and to keep it much cleaner than it currently was.
Quality Of Food (Taste, Service & Presentation)
The service of the restaurant was good. The dishes I ordered each took 10 – 15 minutes to prepare, which was fine, as food prepared in a tandoor usually took longer than food prepared on gas ranges.
Although the service staff were not wearing uniforms, they were courteous.
Dishes Ordered
I ordered their highly-rated Afghani chaap, a Chocolate shake, and their famous KFC chaap.
Afghani Chaap
First up came their highly rated Afghani chaap. It was served on a long, black ceramic plate with two additional disposable bowls. The bowls contained some slices of onion and a curd-based green chutney, which is usually served with tandoori items. No cutlery was provided with the dish, instead, a few toothpicks were provided to eat the dish with.
The Afghani chaap tasted delicious and had to be one of the best chaap variations I’ve had to date. It was rich, creamy, buttery, and melt-in-mouth soft. It was very well cooked and had a very prominent taste of black pepper and chili flakes coming through it. Unlike other places serving this dish, the Afghani chaap served here had a very thick and creamy layer of Afghani sauce over it which was jam-packed with flavor. Some of the chaap pieces even had a nice dark, charred texture to them, giving off a delicious tandoori flavor, which took the overall taste of the dish to a whole new level.
I quite liked the style of having the chaap with toothpicks as I rarely missed not having a fork or spoon.
The green chutney and the onion slices acted as great accompaniments to the dish by providing some much-needed relief from the super-rich and creamy flavor of the Afghani chaap. A true masterpiece of a dish.
Chocolate Shake
Next up came the chocolate shake. The chocolate shake was served chilled, full till the brim in a reasonably tall glass that had some kind of food art drawn on it. It was quite creamy and tasted great and acted as a great beverage to go with my meal on a hot summer day.
KFC Chaap
And finally came their famous KFC chaap. Two large golden fried chaap pieces were served on a long, black ceramic plate, along with some green chutney, which was this time served on the plate itself. The chaap had a couple of ice cream sticks inserted in them to resemble a lollipop.
The chaap was super crunchy from the outside and moist on the inside. The outer layer was coated evenly with something that looked a lot like cornflakes and had been seasoned with some salt and chaat masala, which gave the dish a nice tangy flavor.
As good as the outside layer of the chaap was, the tangy flavor didn’t reach the insides of the chaap, which was surprisingly low on flavor. Maybe they had designed the dish to be this way, but I felt the dish would have tasted much better if they had added more flavor on the insides of the chaap as well. Still, it was a unique and filling dish and should be quite popular with the younger audiences who are not too fussed about flavor and are looking for a crunchy snack.

To Eat or Not?
To Eat, surely.
With their great food, economical pricing, and elaborate menu, they are most definitely one of the better places in the city to enjoy some delicious chaap variations.
All the dishes that I ordered didn’t take long to prepare, were presented nicely, and were tasty and filling in equal measure. I would like to give a special to the Afghani chaap in particular, which was sublime and had to be arguably, one of the best chaap dishes I’ve had in a long, long time.
They can do some things much better, like putting more flavor in their KFC chaap, and more importantly, improving the overall ambiance of the place by keeping it extremely clean, improving the overall lighting in the seating area, and adding some lively music in there too.
I would also like to recommend you to opt for takeaway or dine-in over online delivery, as their prices on Zomato are considerably higher in comparison to their offline prices for some strange reason.
Overall, I quite enjoyed my visit to this fast-food restaurant, and I hope to find it in a much better shape than I found it in today, as I still have quite a few more interesting chaap variations to try out on my next visit.
They’ve got the menu, pricing, and food right, it is the ambiance they need to work on.
