The Retro Rolls Food Review

Hi foodies, today I’ll be doing a food review of a popular fast-food restaurant at Ring Road, Dharampur. They are very well known for their pocket-friendly pricing, serving size, well-curated menu & Rolls.

Ambience

The ambiance of the restaurant was refreshingly youthful and vibrant, largely thanks to the various eye-catching, vibrant colors that they had integrated throughout the restaurant’s area in various shapes and forms to give the place a truly inviting feel.

The restaurant was predominantly designed to be more like a takeaway outlet; hence the overall area of the restaurant was indeed quite compact as compared to other fast-food outlets found in the city, it nevertheless looked extremely well maintained and hygienic.

Moreover, I found the restaurant to have all the necessary, important aspects in place that a good fast-food outlet must have, like the use of varied seating arrangements, modern lighting options, lively, peppy music playing in the background, along the use of fresh potted plants all across its premises as well, which further added to the overall positive appeal of the place and helped in giving the outlet a more complete feel.

Quality Of Food (Taste, Service & Presentation)

The service of the restaurant was quick and efficient. All the dishes that I had ordered were served hygienically, presented well, and prepared in quick time.

The service staff was in the restaurant’s trademark black uniform and looked smart. Moreover, they were super warm and courteous towards me, especially Mr. Rohan, who was handling the counter for the day, was always on hand to not only provide an answer to any of my various queries regarding the dishes and menu but was also polite enough to give me recommendations based on my tastes and preferences.

Dishes Ordered

From their cold beverages section, I ordered one of their best-selling shakes, the Butterscotch Shake.

From their sides section, I ordered one of their most popular veg side dishes, the Veg Stuff Pocket.

For my main course, I ordered one of their best varieties of non-veg rolls, the Chicken Roll (Double).

Butterscotch Shake

First up came one of their best-selling shakes, the butterscotch shake.

The butterscotch shake was served in a tightly sealed white paper cup, and although I could not see the shake itself, it did however taste great.

The shake was prepared to be slightly runny in consistency compared to what is normally seen served in other restaurants, but it was nevertheless super creamy and frothy in texture, and one could clearly get the taste of fresh, rich butterscotch in every sip wonderfully. Moreover, I also liked the way that they handled the level of sweetness in the shake, as I found it to have the perfect amount of sweetness to it without being overly sweet.

Although I appreciate their effort of trying out a new serving style for their beverage personally, I like to see my food before I indulge in it, and therefore I would like to advise them to remove the lid from their beverages before serving it to dine-in customers for the sake of better presentation, and instead, keep it on only for delivery orders.

Veg Stuff Pocket

Next up came one of their most popular veg side dishes, the veg stuff pocket.

Four triangle-shaped, layered, deep-fried mini pockets were served in a disposable paper container and looked extremely appetizing. To complement the dish better, a few tomato sauce sachets were provided with it too.

The veg pockets were super crunchy on the outside and deliciously cheesy and slightly gooey on the inside and tasted great. Starting with the outer layer, it was prepared with the help of all-purpose flour and was kneaded to an ultra-thin texture. The thin outer layer was then crumbed with a good quality of breadcrumbs and deep-fried to perfection to such an extent that it had developed a delicious golden fried texture.

Moving on to the stuffing, they had stuffed quite a few delicious elements in it like a relatively generous slice of fresh paneer, followed by a flavorsome layer of mashed potatoes, lots of melted cheese, some finely chopped cubes of green capsicum for some crunch, and lastly, everything was seasoned well with the help of some pizza seasonings and chilli flakes, to not only give the stuffing a tangy flavor but also a slightly spicy aftertaste.

If you’re someone who is on a tight budget but still wants to indulge in some bite-sized cheesy goodness, this veg side dish is a great option to try from their menu.

Chicken Roll (Double)

And finally came one of their best varieties of non-veg rolls, the chicken roll (double).

The chicken roll was served wrapped in the restaurant’s trademark butter paper and as far as first impressions go, looked superb. A few sachets of tomato sauce were served with it too, for the convenience of the customers.

The chicken roll was super flaky and soft on the outside and was jam-packed with lots of varied, delicious flavors, thereby giving it a truly mouth-watering taste.

Starting with the outer layer, the paratha was super flaky and soft in texture, but not chewy at all, instead, it was melt-in-mouth soft. They had chosen not to prepare the dough like a normal roti, instead, they had prepared it to be layered in texture, more like the kind that is commonly seen used for Kathi rolls. Moreover, they lightly seasoned the dough with some salt as well as to help amplify its flavors even more, which I thought was a small but necessary touch.

Moving on to the filling, various flavorful ingredients were tightly packed together like a generous quantity of small chicken pieces, lots of finely chopped slices of cabbage, carrots, and onions, which were kept crunchy in texture to add some freshness to the filling, and lastly, to top it all off, a couple of delectable sauces were poured in it as well, with one being a milder curd-based white sauce, whereas the other sauce was a more robust, red colored chilli sauce, which helped in giving the filling some much-needed heat.

The chicken pieces in particular had been cooked to perfection in a lightly flavored spiced marinade which not only kept the chicken pieces moist and juicy but also helped give the pieces a robust, aromatic flavor that complimented well with all the other fresh ingredients present in the filling.

I’ve had many delicious rolls from varied restaurants around the city, but I have no hesitation in saying that this particular roll will definitely go down as one of the very best rolls I’ve had in Dehradun to date. If you’re someone who’s looking for a roll that is jam-packed with lots of delicious flavors to the brim, this roll is a must-have for you.

To Eat or Not?

To Eat, without a doubt.

With its compact yet modern and lively ambiance, impressive service, absolutely delicious food, and well-curated menu, this fast-food restaurant is most definitely one of the very best places in the city today to visit or order from, if you’re looking to indulge in some truly delicious fast-food items, especially rolls, with your loved ones, without burning a hole in your pockets, thanks to their extremely pocket-friendly prices.

Although I liked all the dishes that I had ordered very much, I wanted to give a special mention to the chicken roll, as I found everything from its outer paratha to its flavorsome filling to be spot on as far as flavors and cooking expertise are concerned.

Overall, I had a thoroughly enjoyable experience visiting this fast-food outlet and I can’t wait to go back and try a few more delicious and affordable delicacies from their focused menu.
